Umbria is located in central Italy. It includes Lake Trasimeno and the Marmore waterfalls and it’s crossed by the Tiber River. The regional capital is Perugia. Umbria is known for its landscapes, traditions, history, culinary delights, artistic heritage and influence on culture. The region is characterised by hills, mountains, valleys and historic towns such as the university centre of Perugia, Assisi, a World Heritage Site linked to Saint Francis of Assisi, Terni, Norcia, Città di Castello, Gubbio, Spoleto, Orvieto, Todi, Castiglione del Lago, Narni, Amelia and other small towns. Umbria has also long been a secret among art lovers. Perugia, Urbino and Assisi are the main sights of the region. This region is also known as a golf destination. This is mainly due to the undulating terrain, which encourages golf course designers to create masterpieces. The most renowned golf course for a golf holiday in Umbria is the Lamborghini Golf Club, on Lake Trasimeno. Noble and exclusive, especially in terms of gastronomy: eight different varieties of white and black truffles grow here. The Perugia Golf Club is also worthy of mention. It is only 6 km away from the main town, Perugia, and within short distance from most of Umbria’s sights. The hotels in the region offer all modern amenities and are also good starting points for golfing and other leisure activities.

When it commemorated its 50th anniversary in 2009, the Golf Club Perugia gave itself a restyling to celebrate in style. The characteristic clubhouse – a lime-kiln from the 1920s, with its two lateral brick towers – simply wasn’t large enough to accommodate the increasing number of members and their demands. Therefore, in total harmony with the architectural style, some of the areas were expanded and new ones were created to make room for the gym and larger, more modern locker rooms. However, the warm and homelike atmosphere of the Umbrian club has remained the same, only a quarter of an hour from the center of Perugia. The club hosted the wonderful edition of the Ladies Italian Open won by the Englishwoman Florentyna Parker in 2014 . Opened in 1959, the course has sections which are typical of the style of the era. To play well here, it isn’t so important to hit the ball far, but to know how to keep it straight on the undulating holes, edged by oaks and pines, and center the small greens with precision. After-golf activities offer many options, beginning with a visit to the historic center of Perugia perched on the Colle del Sole at 500 meters of altitude, one of Italy’s most beautiful art cities with its Etruscan and Roman walls and the medieval Palazzo dei Priori building. Technical Details Course: 18 holes, Par 71, 5763 meters Architect: Arnold Palmer Topography: slightly hilly with a luxuriant vegetation. Distinctive features: slightly hilly course with relatively long holes. However, the luxuriant vegetation requires the highest precision, especially at the first tee and on fast greens. Pro’s Comments Precision is the watchword on this route, which began in 1959! Situated on the hills 6 km from the town, Golf Club Perugia is an interesting test for all levels. A good score will be achieved if the ball is played on very narrow fairways. Some examples are holes 5 and 6, two Par 5s not too long but very very narrow with tiny greens and off-limits on the right. Very advisable!

Be prepared to have your breath taken away: the panorama of the Umbrian countryside, the backdrop of the hills and the might of the castle which gives its name to the golf course, are the strengths of this 18-hole course arising from the drafting pencil of Robert Trent Jones Jr. in 1997. The rather long and undulating layout unwinds in a valley bordered by woods and cypresses – the 18 holes on foot are for the most athletic, others may prefer to book a golf cart – peppered with bunkers with high edges that make getting out difficult. The course is completed by speedy greens that are impeccably maintained with slopes sometimes hard to read. If you are unfamiliar with the course, each hole must be studied, taking into consideration the slopes, the water hazards, the positions of the flags: in other words, it’s easier to get a good score if you’ve played it more than once. But the score is of relative importance when facing a landscape this beautiful, nestled in greenery and surrounded by tranquility. The course has been subject to a multi-million euro investment in 2018. All bunkers have been renovated with new irrigation and drainage systems also installed. The position, 20 minutes north of Perugia, allows you to easily find a great number of architectural, artistic and enogastronomical attractions, once the match is over. Technical Details Course: 18 holes, Par 71, 6112 meters Architect: Robert Trent Jones II Topography: Situated in a valley between beautiful mountains, hilly, downhill, 2 big lakes, a few trees that do not impede the view of the holes. Distinctive features: technically demanding
