Just mention Franciacorta and immediately everyone will think of the precious vineyards of this area, that borders with the Southern shore of the Iseo Lake, between Brescia and Adro, a district that the connoisseurs are now appointing as the new “Chiantishire”: castles and ancient fortified boroughs, excellent food and wine culture, a mild climate. And, obviously, golf. The three 9 holes courses of Franciacorta Golf Club, all named after the most famous products of the area (Brut and Satèn offer the setting of the usual championship courses, whereas Rosè is more suitable for practicing and beginners) were created in the mid-80s, due to the clever foresight of entrepreneur Vittorio Moretti and thanks to the design of two architects, the American Peter Dye and the Venetian Marco Croze, who took care of the actual construction. It is a course of great character, not particularly long, but with a succession of obstacles, mostly water hazards. Among the best holes, in Satèn the 2nd stands out, a par 3 with an island green and the tee stretching into the lake and the 5th hole, a panoramic par 4 with a breathtaking view over the hills and Iseo Lake. The clubhouse is a wide and modern open-space building, with high ceilings and huge windows. Not far from it are the two swimming pools, the mini-soccer field and the residential areas, slightly apart from the golf course, that never interfere with the beautiful , bucolic views. Technical Details Course : 3×9 holes (Brut/Satèn/Rosé), Par 37/36/34, 2936/2979/2593 meter Architect : Pete Dye and Marco Croze Topography : hilly, large water obstacles Distinctive features : is considered one of the best golf places in Italy Pro’s comments This championship course is a succession of dogleg holes with very accentuated bends. Playing it once is not enough to fully understand the strategy to adapt to get the best from your game. The Par 5s are beautiful and entertaining, reachable in 2 shots for stronger players, but equally enjoyable for all other players. The best shot of the day? Stopping at a restaurant at the end of a match: you are in the right place for tasting some of Italy’s finest bubbly.

The beauty of the magnificent mansion of the fifteenth century which hosts the clubhouse and the facilities of the five star resort will take your breath away. It’s been restored thanks to the Baron Lando Lanni della Quara, in 1998. But this is only the beginning, because the two courses are keeping the promise of an inspiring welcome. The signatures belong to two worldwide heavyweights of golf: the American Jack Nicklaus II, son of the Golden Bear, has designed the 18 holes, whereas on the 9 holes course has worked the South African Gary Player. Two very different golf courses in terms of characteristics: Player has taken advantage of the undulating terrain, arranging it to resemble a Scottish link, complete with the classical and fatal “pot bunkers”, small and deep, scattered in strategic positions as traps; the project of Nicklaus Jr is on the contrary more typically American, less complicated, with larger fairways and wide greens, that reward a powerful game and don’t penalise inaccuracy too much. Take the souvenir photo on the 18th hole championship tee, which offers a 360° fascinating view. After golf, it would be a pity not taking advantage of the gourmet cuisine of the club’s restaurant, under the enchanting vaulted ceilings or al fresco, on the large terrace surrounded by the gardens. To release the tension and get back your energy, the ideal solution is to choose some pure relaxation, indulging in the skilled hands at the Spa. Course: 18 holes, Par 72, 6410 meters Architect: Jack Nicklaus Distinctive features: perfect for long shots, large fairways, deep bunkers, hazards Course: 9 holes, Par 36, 3027 meters Architect: Gary Player Distinctive features: scottish Links course, hilly, high greens and deep bunkers, a strategic play is required. Playing Arzaga Golf Club is a unique experience. The Jack Nicklaus II course is extremely pleasant and fair, forgives a few small technical errors, but it doesn’t mean that therefore it’s easy or ordinary, on the contrary: some wicked obstacles on the holes can penalize the player beyond measure! The 9th and the 18th holes are alone worth the expense of the green-fee: challenging to play, both have greens by the spectacular clubhouse. A not to be missed course! The 9 holes designed by Gary Player are completely different: traps everywhere with very well guarded and difficult to read greens. An entertaining and unique experience. Take care with the first shot of the 1st hole, a dog-leg to the right: if you decide to cut and you’re not strong enough, a double bogey is waiting for you!

Meeting place: Osteria Quattro Rose
The Osteria Quattro Rose, which likes to define itself as a "wine bar with kitchen", offers a homely, warm atmosphere and is reminiscent of one of the oldest trattorias in the town, active since 1800. There are two indoor dining rooms, one of which has a large fireplace that can seat 40 people, and an elegant summer area surrounded by a green garden.
The cuisine is simple but extremely well prepared and offers typical traditional Brescian dishes with ample use of local products, alternating the menu with seasonal rhythms. But the real cult object of the Osteria Quattro Rose is wine and everything related to it, with a prestigious wine list that includes about 400 local, national and foreign labels.
