In the heart of Rimini’s countryside, Riviera Golf Resort has been well known from the very beginning, when, in 2002, it attracted media attention thanks to a futuristic design project: the clubhouse, the outstanding 82-m²-large outdoor swimming pool made of Noto stone, the spa area and the hotel, offering 32 suites designed by 14 different architects, were completed with a pleasant 9 holes golf course. 8 years later the course was extended along the Conca river: 18 holes designed by the Canadian architect Graham Cooke, further enhanced by 9 pitch & putt holes for the beginners. Cooke wanted to reinvent the concept of links courses and conform it to the current context, alternating wide holes with more challenging ones, gentle mounds and large fairways, in order to make it a fun and engaging round both for the amateurs and for the pros. The experience in this club is enhanced by the range of facilities of the resort, with the huge pool, perfect for relaxing in the sun or for an invigorating swim after the game, but also for the poolside dining experience, the treatments at the spa and the gym, with super-modern equipment. And, just literally round the corner, there are the beaches and the nightlife of Cattolica. Say the word “Romagna” and the first thing that comes to mind is the Riviera with its kilometric beaches, delicious piadina sandwiches, and the natives’ ability to satisfy the needs of the thousands of international tourists that each year choose it for their holidays. For this reason, the region could not be without a top level golf course. Therefore, in 1984, at the request of the Cervia Municipality and thanks to the initiative of many local tourism entrepreneurs, the Adriatic Golf Club came into being and which, to its initial 18 holes, added another course of 9 holes in 2004. The course lies on 100 hectares of completely level land in a pristine natural environment 500 meters from the sea: the first 9 holes (Red route) are nestled in a lush pinewood between Cervia and Milano Marittima, the second 9 (Blue route) feature fairways that are more open and above all are furrowed by significant American-style water hazards: the most recent, the Yellow route, has the feel of Scottish links. Only trees, countryside and the fragrance of the sea: there are no constructions to disturb the golfer’s line of vision during matches; the modern clubhouse with its red-tile roof fits well into the landscape: a drink perhaps at sunset is highly recommended on the terrace facing the playing routes and the large lake that makes the final holes of the Yellow and Blue routes more difficult. Pro’s Comments Three 9-hole routes that you should not overlook; you will be hitting shots in the woods where extreme precision is necessary (7th and 8th holes on the red route), you will be playing holes where strength is a good resource to have (11th and 16th on the blue route) and you’ll be hitting in the wind on the yellow route where the sea breeze is often in command: seeing is believing.
