Gateway to the desert and the south, Marrakech is overwhelming like no other imperial city of Morocco. Its reddish-pink streets and alleys are full of sounds, sights, smells and life. The mid-summer heat is enough to prostrate most tourists. The best times to explore Marrakech are early morning, early evening, and winter, during winter temperatures are mild, but fall significantly at night, due to the cold air from the High Atlas. The Djemaa El-Fna, Assembly of the Dead, is anything but what its name suggests. A hot and crowded market by day, the Djemaa really gets rolling at sunset when the entertainers invade. This chaotic outdoor circus offers a microcosms of Morocco at its most exotic. The huge audience clusters in tight circles around the diverse cast of performers. Almost every tour of Marrakech begins at the 12th century Koutoubia Mosque, with its magnificent minaret presiding over the Djemaa. The minaret, crowned by a lantern of three golden spheres, is the oldest and purest surviving example of the architecture of the Almohads. The city’s two most breathtaking monuments date from the 16th century. Feast your eyes and cool off at the ornate Ben Youssef Madrassa, the largest Qur’anic school in North Africa. Even more lavish are the dazzling Saadian Tombs, modelled upon the interior of the Alhambra in Granada. The view from the terrace at the Badi Palace, now in ruins, is majestic. Close by we find the 19th century Bahia Palace. It is an ornate and beautiful palace with restful fountained gardens. To escape from the relentless midday sun, wander in the lush Menara Gardens and lounge in the charming lakeside pavilion. Marrakech is noisy, busy, dusty and chaotic. It is a visual and sensory banquet of colour, diverse cultures, architecture and design. Marrakech delivers an exotic and exciting taste of Africa and the best part is that it is only a few hours away from Europe by plane.

The Royal Golf Marrakech, favorite of the late His Majesty King Hassan II, is the second oldest course of the Kingdom. Some holes are legendary and full of history. Its exceptional vegetation provides a unique setting. Designed by Gustave Golias and Arnaud Massy it opened to the first players in 1927. The Royal Golf Marrakech has 27 holes. David Lloyd George, a British statesman, made numerous appearances on the golf greens of Marrakech. Winston Churchill also played it several times before the Second World War, then later the American President, General Ike Eisenhower. OLD COURSE 18 HOLES PAR 72 – 5.871 METRES It’s the second oldest golf course of the kingdom, it was inaugurated in 1927 with 4 holes played by the Pacha of Marrakech, Hadj Thami El Glaoui Mezouari. In 1928, Gustave Golias, golf champion and personal professor of the Pacha, completed the construction of the 9 first holes and is drawing the 9 following. Passionate about botanic, he also planted species who are now centenary and give to the Royal its garden gold reputation. In 1933, Gustave Golias and the famous Arnaud Massy, who is the first foreigner to win the British Open in 1907, are remodeling the course to give its grace and elegance back It is on this course that you will discover one of the most famous holes, the “Brigitte Bardot”. This PAR 3 was baptitised this way by its Majesty, the king Hassan II. NEW COURSE 9 HOLES PAR 36 – 3 072 METERS In 2007, and to always satisfy the requests of its customer base, The Royal Golf Marrakech entrusts the extension of 9 holes to two french designers : Gert Watine, a golf professional who was born in Morocco and Thierry Sprecher, an architect who constructed many golfs in the hexagon. In May 2008, the New Course was officially inaugurated. This PAR 36 of 3 072 meters is in perfect harmony with the magnificent landscape, preserving its unique atmosphere that makes the well known charm of the Royal Golf Marrakech. This course benefits of all the vegetation, perfectly integrating with the actual course, with water ponds, offering this way a more technical and long course.

The Montgomery Golf Marrakech offers Arabian ambience mixed with Scottish golf tradition on around 75 hectares. The golf course is a must-play for every golf lover and is considered a challenging course in Marrakech. Eight-time European champion Collin Montgomery designed The Montgomery Golf Marrakech. His goal was to create a golf course that would suit all levels of play. The ondulated, long, wide and partly undulating fairways pose a special challenge. The more than 70 beautifully designed bunkers also stand out on the course. Some of them are deep bunkers. Hardly any other golf course offers this outstanding and striking bunker design. It is reminiscent of a Scottish links course. At 6230 metres, the various tees offer the right level of difficulty for every golfer.
