Royal Golf La Bagnaia - Golf course information & golf holiday offers
Wide open spaces, a vegetation reminding that of the Scottish links – very few trees, dense impenetrable rough and thick ball-eating bushes – and a ground left to its natural undulation are the characteristics that stand out in this 18 holes course, immersed in the beauty of the countryside of Siena. It is due to the resolution of Marisa Monti Riffeser, who has developed part of the family estate into a high profile resort with its golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones jr. and opened to the public in February 2012.
The wide fairways allow long hitters to bomb the driver at their convenience, but be careful, because accuracy is nevertheless required to reach the small greens and avoid the many deep bunkers guarding the flags. The clubhouse – an ancient stone farmhouse, carefully restored respecting the Tuscan style – is perched in a dominating position and it’s worth visiting, even for a drink at the end of the game, either relaxing on the terrace to enjoy the marvelous landscape or in the comfortable lounge, with terracotta-tiled floors and wood-beamed ceilings. Siena, with the Piazza del Campo and its “Palio” is only 17 Km far: so close that its towers can be seen from the course.

Pro’s comments
If you’re looking for a golf course where you can release your power in a truly unique setting, then look no further: La Bagnaia is a stunning inland links-style course. Remember, though, that the rough is punishing and the bunkers are very deep and strategically scattered, with small greens in the typical style of Trent Jones. Take care on the first 9 holes and avoid water hazards, constantly on the left: at the 3rd, 4th and 7th hole make a good use of the right side. On the second 9 holes, instead, use the map before teeing off at the 10th: the longer hitters must be aware of the stream crossing the fairway; be finally careful at the 13th, a long par 5 where water lurks on the right. One last advice: keep your head up whilst walking and have a look around: it’s definitely worth it!
