Tuscany is located in central Italy and stretches from the Apennines to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The landscape, the artistic heritage and the outstanding cities – especially Florence – make Tuscany an undisputed protagonist of international tourism. In this region, nature has many different facets, starting with the coast, which alternates long and sandy beaches, such as the Versilia beach, with rocky cliffs and steep headlands. The islands of the Tuscan archipelago, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, crystal clear sea and rich seabed, are unique. You can admire unspoilt landscapes in the Apuan Alps and in several protected areas such as the lagoon of Orbetello, which is home to many species of migratory birds, including egrets. However, the most typical landscapes of the region are those that combine the beauty of nature with the millennial work of man. The amazing Gulf of Baratti and the sites of Vetulonia, Vulci and Pitigliano guard necropolises and remains of the Etruscan civilisation, while Roselle and Cosa evoke memories of Roman times. Medieval villages, historic towns, castles and defences, country churches (called pievi) and beautiful abbeys like that of Sant’ Antimo are scattered throughout the territory and their profiles stand out in the landscapes of the Crete Senesi , Orcia Valley, Garfagnana, Chianti and the Maremma. Finally, Tuscany is full of spas: Montecatini, Saturnia, Montepulciano, Monsummano and Bagno Vignoni, which offer a relaxing holiday thanks to their thermal waters and well-equipped facilities for all types of treatments. The provinces of the region are: Florence (regional capital), Arezzo, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena. Some of the most beautiful golf courses in Italy can be found in Tuscany – Golf in Tuscany has all the things for a wonderful golfing holiday. The temperate climate means that golf can be played almost all year round and with many golf clubs, Tuscany will certainly not tire you out. The impressive slightly hilly nature also offers a few challenging golf courses. In total, there are around 30 golf clubs in Tuscany. Among the best golf courses in Tuscany are the Golf & Country Club Le Pavoniere, Royal Golf La Bagnaia and the Golf Club Punta Ala. Golf in Tuscany also promises some of the finest golf hotels in Italy, for example Toscana Resort Castelfalfi, Argentario Golf Resort & Spa and Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf. An outstanding golf resort in Tuscany is certainly the Toscana Resort Castelfalfi. This golf hotel is not only a luxurious venue for outstanding golf holidays in Italy, but also has one of the most beautiful courses in Tuscany: 27 holes make this course one of the most spectacular in the region. When golfing in Tuscany, don’t miss visiting the capitol city of the region: Florence. This city is known as the cradle of the Renaissance, a very important period that marked the beginning of the world as we know and live it today. It is said that one week in Florence is not enough if you want to explore all the sights. Florence is a great place to start your golf holiday in Tuscany, as there are around 10 golf clubs in the surroundings. Of particular note is the Le Pavoniere Golf & Country Club. This 18-hole golf course, designed by Arnold Palmer, located about 20 kilometres from Florence, is one of the best golf clubs in Tuscany and challenges everyone to keep their score together. As mentioned earlier, Tuscany is known for its very good wines: it is indeed considered one of the best wine regions in the world, along with the Italian region of Piedmont. When you play golf in Tuscany, don’t be surprised to find vineyards right next to the golf course. Some golf courses even have their own vineyard, which gives you the opportunity to taste top wines right on the spot, where they are matured in the sun.
