Opened in 1991, near the village of Sarnonico in the Upper Non Valley, Dolomiti Golf Club is reputed one of the most difficult 18-hole mountain courses in Italy. Large and well-maintained fairways, finely designed greens, deep and tricky bunkers and some demanding water hazards: an extremely technical course and a tight golfing test, challenging for all levels of players. As a reward for a tough round, each hole is framed by an alpine view of rare beauty: even if your golf isn’t spectacular, the views most certainly are. Nestled in a beautiful setting, a plateau surrounded by the breathtaking majesty of the Brenta Dolomites and the mountain chain of the Maddalene, the golf course is spectacular and stimulating, covering an area of 50 hectares within an ancient wood of pine trees, which incorporates 18-holes, a four hole executive course, driving range, putting green, pitching green and chipping green. One of the most interesting holes is here the 8th, curiously called “The Boomerang” by the members of the club. It’s a 496 m Par 5 dogleg to the right, with a narrow fairway that runs entirely through the thick forest until a small and well –guarded green. This hole is all about the tee shot, but once in the fairway, the next shots are to be carefully placed too. Thanks to the favorable climate, the golfing season starts in March and ends in November, boasting a mild and breezy Summer. Dolomiti Golf Club boasts 9 holes which run through the pine forest and pose a stern test of golf accuracy and then 9 holes placed on a wide high plateau, where strength is highly rewarding. On the first hole’s tee you’ll soon understand which holes are the wooded ones! Make good use of the slope, keep your ball in the fairway and the par is going to be there for you. An unusual feature here is that you’ll have to play three Par 5 through the forest, all of them really tricky, between the 3rd and the 9th. (The first 9 holes are Par 37!) Don’t try to find short-cuts or to bravely carry over the lakes: you have to be humble and seek consistency and accuracy! On a positive note, apart from the water obstacles, it really is difficult to lose a ball here, in the undergrowth maintenance and upkeep are impeccable. When you arrive on the tee of the 10th , the scenario changes dramatically: an extra-long Par 5 (570 m ) and an extra-large fairway let you “frolic in the great outdoors”! Try only to avoid the bunker on the left, that may endanger your first shot. This is pretty much what awaits you until the 18th: long and large fairways and what beautiful views from the tee… To finish in style, the sublime 18th: a long Par 4, slightly downhill, with a huge green and a water hazard to penalize the last possible slice of the round.
