Clube de Golf Santo da Serra

Clube de Golf Santo da Serra - Golf course information & golf holiday offers

Built in 1937 and redesigned in 1991 by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones who created a completely new 27-hole golf course in a beautiful natural setting on the island of Madeira. The Clube de Golf Santo Serra, just a few minutes from the airport and Funchal, hosts the Madeira Island Open every year, a PGA European tournament that brings together the best players of the Ryder’s Cup.

The 27-hole golf course is a veritable botanical garden, ornamented with four beautiful lakes, strategically placed bunkers, wide fairways, full of trees that provide shade from the bright Atlantic sun. With four optional tees on each hole, the player is faced with different levels of play that can lead to a simple and relaxed game or a more challenging test with a fabulous view of the Atlantic and the mountains.

The machico (red) course is undoubtedly spectacular, vertical, which can be misleading to judge the distance due to the altitude and wind. Holes 2 and 4 of the course remain unforgettable in the memory of those who play it.

A richly decorated clubhouse with restaurant, lounge, bar and terrace allows you to watch regular practice rounds or warm up in a magnificent practice area with two putting greens, chipping green, practice bunkers and driving range complete a first class service at this Golf Club.

Fantastic view

The Santo Serra golf course offers spectacular views from its 18 holes facing the sea. However, the terrain slopes very steeply down to the sea, so you play the last three holes uphill. In Switzerland, we would call this a "goat course." Due to the storm at the beginning of December, some trees were completely uprooted or branches and many leaves were still on the fairway, which we fully understood given the strength of the storm. Finally, it should be noted that the Santoda Serra Club should definitely offer electric trolleys, as not all players like carts.
