Pevero Golf Club Porto Cervo - OT

Pevero Golf Club - Golf course information & golf holiday offers

A green gem, which stands out in the most beautiful seaside area in Italy, the one of the Smeralda Coast. Pevero Golf Club was opened in 1972, thanks to the inspiration of an artist such as the architect Robert Trent Jones and sponsored by the multimillionaire Karim Aga Khan, who was the first to understand the potential of this corner of paradise and transformed it into the glamorous holiday resort par excellence. The 18 holes run on a promontory which allows breathtaking views along almost three quarters of the course. When the northwest wind blows – not infrequently in Sardinia – Pevero becomes almost impossible to play: to keep the ball on the fairways is a real challenge. Memorably the 1978 Italian Open was here, with the highest scores in the history of the tournament, just because of the wind: the South-African Dale Hayes won with a score of 293, 5 over par. But also in normal weather conditions, the challenge is really stimulating, the problem being not the distance (6.107 m from the championship tees, which are rarely used) but the ability to avoid the thick shrubs and the rocks that line the fairways (although there’s very little rough), the water hazards (6 holes presenting lakes and ponds) and to understand the slopes of the fatal bean-shaped greens, trade mark of Trent Jones. Technical Details Course: 18 holes, Par 72, 5805 meters Architect: Robert Trent Jones Sr. Topography: quite hilly terrain Distinctive features: doglegs are quite faraway from one another. There are some bunkers, a few water hazards and narrow fairways requiring a precise game. Pro’s Comments “Soft on the eyes, steel to touch” One of my favorite golf clubs, in a breathtaking setting. Holes 1 to 18 are relentless. Mistakes are not allowed. Off the fairway, only Mediterranean brush and bushes, quite undulating greens, and wind that blows almost every day. It might seem like hell, but the more you play it, the more you will appreciate it and some days it feels like heaven. Incredible holes: the 15th , a par 5 running along the Cala di Volpe bay, and the 16th, a short downhill par 4 but with a lateral water hazard on the first stroke and frontal on the second, with an extremely long (about 50 meters) and narrow (maximum width about 9 meters) green. Pure pleasure for the eyes and your swing. Put it on your must-see list.
